All Around Update: Writing, Baby, and the Secret Project

On writing:

Working on revisions for THE GLASS MAGICIAN; having a hard time really getting down and dirty with them. I usually dump my gooey rough draft straight onto my alpha readers, but, like it's predecessor, TGM needs a pacing revision first. Gotta get my brain in the game!

On pregnancy:

The most dramatic development this week: Reflexes. Your baby's fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you prod your abdomen, your baby will squirm in response, although you won't be able to feel it. His intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into his abdominal cavity about now, and his kidneys will begin excreting urine into his bladder. From crown to rump, your baby-to-be is just over two inches long (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce.

Was doing a lot better last week, but yesterday the nausea struck again. Husband has been incredibly patient with me and my whining. :)

On the secret project:

Made minimal headway this week, but at least it's headway!

What are you guys working on this week?

Big Announcement #2: A Bit of a Lifestyle Change....

This little bugger is the reason I haven't worked on THE SECRET PROJECT in six weeks. I'm too sick!

Big Announcement #1: THE PAPER MAGICIAN, SOLD!

This is the first of two big announcements I have this week. :)

You know, in case the title didn't give it away.

THE PAPER MAGICIAN and THE GLASS MAGICIAN have SOLD in a two-book deal to 47Norththe fantasy, sci-fi, and horror imprint of!

I am EXTREMELY PLEASED to announce this deal. I don't think there's a better home out there for these books than with 47North. I was incredibly impressed with them after talking to the editor on the phone, and I'm SUPER EXCITED.

I will being this dance for the rest of the week:

The Blueprint Creator

A friend of mine recently showed me, which will let you create the blueprint for a wide variety of houses, including themes like Colonial and Gothic Revival. Methinks this would be a great tool for writing!

In the meantime, I'm off on vacation Wednesday-Sunday this week to visit with the in-laws. And hole myself up in a bedroom to write lots of THE GLASS MAGICIAN. I'm rather excited. :)

Time to Gear Up!

My writing productivity has hit a major decline since I started working my new full-time job--if not for the abundance of drafting I did during my months of unemployment, I'd be incredibly behind.

But, as you may know from the guest post I did on Jeff Hargett's blog, "I don't have time" is not a valid excuse. At least, not in my book. And while I have been (slowly) working on edits for two MSs, I haven't actually drafted anything since February. I am determined to see that change!

I have a five-day vacation--glorious vacation--next week, and I intend to use that break to re-enter drafting mode and begin THE GLASS MAGICIAN. I'm especially hoping that my excitement for this book (and it's romantic-tension-packed goodness) will further inspire me to write after long days of creativity-thwarting technical editing. Stay tuned.

Side note: I've also determined to limit my Arrested Development escapades and make more time for reading. Woohoo!
